Journalists for Human Rights (JHR) is looking for a Financial Coordinator for its new project “Amplifying Voices of Women and Girls”. The successful candidate will report to the Project Regional Manager to ensure the sound and smooth transfer of funds and execution of payments in accordance with JHR policies and procedures in addition to national regulations.

LOCATION: Marrakesh, Morocco
DURATION: 12 months (extension or renewal is contingent on performance)
START DATE: ASAP
SALARY: CAD $1,700
TRAVEL: Domestic travel, and possibly international travel, is required for this role.

The Amplifying Voices of Women and Girls aims to provide support to media and civil society to improve civic education amongst the public on inclusive governance and women’s role in public life.

The Financial Coordinator will correspond with JHR’s head office finance department and liaise with JHR’s consultants in collaboration with the project regional manager and the project coordinator to facilitate smooth financial operations and records. Duties and responsibilities include the below.

The Finance Coordinator will:
– Review and correct all financial reports from JHR’s contractors, partners and consultants before submitting them to the Project Regional Manager.
– Book and document all financial transactions between JHR’s country office and contractors, partners and consultants.
– Prepare the country’s office monthly financial reports and monthly budget requests.
– Recommend financial actions by analyzing accounting options and to ensure the best implementation of accounting standards.
– Summarize current financial status by collecting information and preparing monthly budgets vs. expenses draft reports for the Finance Manager to review.

– Secure the project’s financial information by completing data base backups for all supporting documents and financial correspondents.
– Guide the JHR’s consultants and other relevant staff members on coordinating financial activities and answering questions.
– Ensure the project compliance with federal, state, and local financial legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions

Education:
– Bachelor’s Degree or an advanced diploma in accounting/finance, economics, business studies or a relevant field of study or an equivalent experience in the field.

Experience & Skills:
– 1-3 years’ experience in finance and administration, preferably in a non-governmental setting.
– Strong computer skills in accounting systems, spreadsheets, word processing of Microsoft Office Suite products.
– Excellent communication skills in Arabic is a must. Preference is given to fluent speakers of English and/or French.
– Good knowledge of financial reporting and validation of supporting documents from different sources.
– Solid experience in collaborating on conducting financial auditing of procedures and documentation.
– Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
– Strong organizational skills and the ability to accurately synthesize data with a high degree of attention to detail.
– Experience administering international development or similar projects is an asset.
