Journalists For SRHR Masterclass
Program overview
The Journalists for SRHR Masterclass is an initiative by the World Health Organization, in collaboration with UNAIDS, UNFPA, and UNICEF, as part of the 2gether 4 SRHR Programme, a joint regional effort implemented by the four agencies in partnership with the Regional SRHR Team of Sweden. This joint programme leverages the comparative strengths and technical expertise of the participating UN agencies to deliver as one. It aims to improve sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) for all people in Eastern and Southern Africa through a regional approach grounded in applied learning at the country level.
Journalists For SRHR Masterclass aims to strengthen media coverage of sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR) issues in East and Southern Africa. Through a series of online training workshops facilitated by Journalists for Human Rights (JHR), participating journalists and editors will gain critical skills, regional context and access to civil society and media networks to report on such issues as teenage pregnancy, access to reproductive health services and gender-based violence, among others. This initiative supports ethical, accurate and solutions-driven reporting that amplifies marginalized voices and fosters transformative discussions on SRHR issues.
Over the course of six months, Journalists for Human Rights (JHR) will support the selected fellows to engage in training webinars and hands-on reporting opportunities designed to deepen their understanding of SRHR and enhance their capacity to produce impactful journalism. Upon successful completion, fellows will be eligible for story production grants and mentorship to further develop their work. By equipping journalists with the tools to report with depth and sensitivity, the Journalists For SRHR Masterclass aims to foster greater public awareness and help drive policy changes that prioritize sexual and reproductive health rights across the region.
