Afghan Safe Passage

Program overview

This program will address a humanitarian need by supporting safe passage for IRCC clients out of Afghanistan to third countries for the purpose of completing their immigration processing and enabling travel to Canada. Due to the fact that Canada has no longer maintained a presence in Afghanistan and a large number of IRCC clients are not financially or physically capable of departing Afghanistan on their own, this support is necessary. IRCC clients will remain at risk if they do not receive assistance in ensuring their safe passage.

In this program, pre-departure services will be provided to support and facilitate the safe relocation of Afghan clients from Afghanistan to a third country via ground transportation.

In addition, this program will provide online training to journalists, reporters, media and communication professionals, civic actors, and women leaders.

This program supports Canada’s commitment to resettle at least 40,000 Afghans. Through this program, up to 900 IRCC clients will be relocated safely from Afghanistan to a third country by ground transportation.

For the time being, the scope of services will be limited to ground transportation only, and all expenditures will be made outside of Afghanistan. A portion of the funding will be used to cover relocation and pre-departure services, as well as orientation sessions for journalists.
