JHR Mali team met with Hamidou Traoré, the sixth Vice President of the Conseil National de la Transition, on April 19
Last week, the JHR team in Bamako met with Hamidou Traoré, the sixth Vice President of the Conseil National de la Transition (i.e., Mali’s interim parliament), to talk about our work to fight against misinformation and promote human rights in Mali. Led by Project Manager Moro Siaka Diallo, the team briefed Mr Traoré on JHR’s projects and achievements, while talking about the obstacles for journalists and media wishing to promote an inclusive democracy in Mali.
This meeting was an opportunity to discuss the current challenges that need to be addressed with strong CNT involvement and support. These include improving state support for the private information and media sector; the application of Law O52 for the promotion of gender in nominative and elective positions in Mali; the promotion of the Law on Reproductive Health; and the significant consideration of the rights of women and girls, people living with disabilities, and internally displaced persons in the political and institutional reforms underway in Mali.
At the meeting, the Vice-President of the CNT said, “I have taken note of these challenges and I will pass them on to the President of the National Council of the Transition to draw his attention to them. We note that the application of Law 052 to promote gender is timid. As legislators, we can help. We can do better and we will improve what is urgent.”
Additionally, the JHR team invited the CNT through the Vice President to participate in our upcoming roundtable with National Endowment for Democracy (NED) on the inclusion of women and youth in local governance in Mali. The roundtable aims to promote dialogue between the media, public decision makers, and civil society organizations. The Vice President welcomed the invitation and said that the CNT will be represented at the roundtable.

JDH Mali reçu en audience par le Conseil National de la Transition
Afin de faire connaitre les interventions et contributions de JHR à la lutte contre la désinformation et à la promotion des droits humains au Mali, le 6ème Vice-Président, M. Hamidou Traoré du Conseil National de la Transition (CNT) a reçu en audience l’équipe de Coordination de JHR basée à Bamako.
Tenue le mardi 19 avril dans les locaux du CNT à la veille de la communication du chef du gouvernement de la transition devant les membres du CNT, cette audience a porté sur JDH, sa vision, sa mission, ses différents projets et résultats obtenus avec les partenaires locaux et internationaux. L’équipe JHR s’est également entretenue avec le Vice-Président du CNT sur les préoccupations et difficultés qui affectent les journalistes et les médias dans leur mission de promotion d’une démocratie inclusive au Mali.
Cette rencontre a été l’opportunité de discuter des défis actuellement importants à relever avec une implication très forte du CNT et un soutien renforcé. Il s’agit d’améliorer le soutien de l’Etat au secteur privé de l’information et des médias ; l’application de la Loi O52 pour la promotion du Genre dans les postes nominatifs et électifs au Mali ; la promotion de la Loi sur la Santé de la Reproduction ; la prise en compte significative des droits des femmes et filles, des personnes vivant avec le handicap, des personnes déplacées internes dans les réformes politiques et institutionnelles en cours au Mali.
Pour le Vice-Président du CNT « j’ai pris bonne note de ces défis que je vais transmettre au Président du Conseil National de la Transition pour attirer son attention. Nous constatons que l’application de la Loi 052 pour promouvoir le genre est timide. En tant que législateurs, on peut aider. On peut faire mieux et on améliorera ce qui est urgent ».
Par ailleurs, l’équipe JHR a invité le CNT à travers le Vice-Président à participer à la Table ronde sur l’inclusion des femmes et jeunes dans la gouvernance locale au Mali que JHR organise avec le soutien financier de NED afin de promouvoir le dialogue entre médias, décideurs publics et organisations de la société civile. Le Vice-Président a bien accueilli cette invitation et affirme que « le CNT sera représenté à la table ronde ».
