Application Deadline: August 17, 2020. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
Start Date: August 31, 2020
End Date: December 18, 2020
Description: This is an exciting opportunity for journalists and media practitioners to mentor individuals in Northwestern Ontario First Nation communities, through JHR’s Indigenous Reporters Program. Journalism mentors will be paired with trainees who are interested in media production, storytelling and improving media literacy. They will work remotely to teach basic media skills and will establish mentorship goals in collaboration with each trainee. Depending on mentor expertise and trainee interests, projects could include creating hyper-local community news content, producing radio or podcast content, photojournalism
projects, or written work published in media across Canada. The journalism trainer’s role is as an educator, not as an embedded journalist reporting on the
communities or individuals they may be working with.
This position has flexible hours based on the availability of the trainer and trainees.
