Journalists for Human Rights (JHR) is looking for a Project Coordinator for its new project “Amplifying Voices of Women and Girls”. The position is based in Nairobi, Kenya. The successful candidate will report to the Africa Regional Director to coordinate the implementation of the project activities on capacity building, networking and knowledge mobilization in addition to activities and relations with external contractual consultants.

The project aims to provide support to media and civil society to improve civic education amongst the public on inclusive governance and women role in public life.
Duties and responsibilities include the following:
– Support the Regional Director in all administrative, logistical and financial procedures and processes regarding the implementation of JHR’s activities.
– Liaise between the Regional Director and JHR’s consultant and project stakeholders
– Prepare the monthly internal reports to be submitted to the Regional Director on achievements, projects problems encountered, pertinent developments, and strategic needs.
– Gather and analyze required data and information in collaboration with local partners on human rights, gender equality and press freedom in Nairobi.
– Attend a daily check-in with the Regional Director and the project management team to provide updates and request support if needed.
– Draft contract agreements for JHR’s consultants in collaboration with the Regional Director.
– Support the process of preparing work plans, including providing support to national partners as directed by the Regional Director.
– Prepare and submit weekly reports on media coverage on governance, with a focus on gender equality.
– Support the project specific social media and online platforms in compliance with the project communication strategy and the workplans.
– Verify, sort, save and scan all M&E documents in compliance with the Performance Measurement Framework (PMF), and ensure their submission by JHR consultant on a monthly basis.
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in development or human rights or a relevant field of study or an equivalent experience in the field.
Experience & Skills:
– 1 to 3 years’ experience in project coordination, logistical support or events management; experience in development or humanitarian work.
– Excellent communication skills in English. Fluency in French is an asset.
– Familiar with consultancy agreements and contractual relations with external stakeholders.
– Familiarity with narrative and/or financial reporting is a strong asset.
– Experience in preparing presentation to internal and external stakeholders.
– Ability to present, resolve and address delicate situations with executive and senior staff.
– Strong computer skills and above average knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite products, including Excel and Outlook.
– Positive attitude and calm demeanor when dealing with external stakeholders.
– Strong teamwork skills and the ability to work solely.
– Strong organizational skills and the ability to accurately synthesize data with a high degree of attention to detail.
