As part of JHR’s efforts to expand its regional relationships, JHR-Iraq Program Coordinator Mohammed Al-Basem visited Beirut to meet with media outlets, human rights organizations and the media faculty at the Lebanese University.
In these meetings, Basem introduced JHR’s work and its pioneering experience supporting journalism, media and local organizations across the countries where JHR operates. He also explored future opportunities for knowledge-sharing and collaboration on media and human rights training, and on building journalists’ and media students’ capacity.
The visit also gave him firsthand insight into the Lebanese media landscape, which is characterized by its diversity and influential presence, but faces increasing challenges due to the economic crisis, political polarization, declining resources for media institutions and the transformations brought about by digital media.
These meetings opened a broad space for cooperation between JHR and Lebanese institutions on press freedom, human rights and media development, paving the way for future partnerships and joint projects.
