APPLY: 2025 BIPOC Youth Fellowship at Ricochet

Journalists for Human Rights blog post

POSITION: Newsroom fellow, two openings

POSITION TYPE: Temporary, open to full time or part time, June 30 – December 31

LOCATION: Remote in Canada, must be legally eligible to work in Canada

SALARY: $27/hr for 400 hours

APPLICATIONS CLOSE: June 2, midnight ET

Ricochet Media is partnering with Journalists for Human Rights to deliver a fellowship program for BIPOC students, new grads, and early-career journalists between the ages of 19 and 29.

In this fellowship, you’ll be paid to get hands-on experience and learn about all aspects of the news business at a growing non-profit digital publication in Canada, including newsroom support, investigative research, writing, reporting, editing, and social media. You’ll also learn about digital production support, community outreach, and podcast production. You’ll work on big investigative projects with teams of seasoned investigative journalists, and contribute to research and story development.

Fellows will work directly with journalists and editors who will provide ongoing mentorship and guidance with numerous opportunities to gain hands-on experience supporting a growing news outlet doing cutting edge public-interest journalism. That is expected to include publishing your own piece of investigative reporting — our team will work with you to ensure you publish at least one byline by the end of the fellowship.

JHR will also be hosting three guest training sessions over the course of the program, so you’ll have a chance to meet the fellows at other outlets, as well as the amazing trainers who are all experts in their respective fields.

If you have any questions about the position, please contact Ricochet managing editor Andrea Houston by email at [email protected]
